Craig Frazier Founder, CEO
Craig Frazier is a graphic designer and founded Frazier Design in 1980. Craig shifted his career emphasis to illustration and gained an
international reputation for his conceptual work. In 2004, Craig published
his first children’s book, Stanley Goes for a Drive (Chronicle Books) and
has since published four more children’s books and an illustrated novella
(2008.) Through his publishing experience, Craig realized that the retail
environment cannot possibly provide shelf space for the ongoing creation of
new books—and that retail consumers were only seeing a fraction of books
published, generally only those that were hits. He recognized that by
designing a website that made picture books entirely viewable—assimilating
the retail experience—we could effectively create an infinite bookshelf and
an entirely new opportunity for consumers and publishers.
Craig Virden Founder, President
Craig Virden is the former president and publisher of Random House
Children’s Books. Craig retired in 2002 and was consulting within the
publishing industry. Lookybook was presented to him in its early stages and
got his attention as a solution to a problem that he feels has existed for
years. Always an instigator for change, Craig sees the timing perfect for
the publishing industry to take full advantage of current technology and the
‘community’ interests of today’s consumers. He is responsible for developing
publisher relations and creating new methods in which Lookybook can best
serve the industry.
Wendell Laidley Founder, Director, Business Development
Wendell was inspired to partner with the Lookybook founders after witnessing
his son’s love for picture books. Wendell brings deep experience in both
technology and finance having served as a Portfolio Manager for 5 years
focused on technology-oriented equities with an SF-based asset management
company (RS Investments). For the previous 10 years he was an Equity
Research Analyst covering the software industry, most recently with Credit
Suisse First Boston and Deutsche Bank. Wendell’s entrepreneurial instincts,
as well as passion for wine and dogs, led him to found two businesses; Realm
Cellars (a Napa Valley-based producer of Bordeaux varietals) and Camp K-9 of
Marin (a full-service daycare, boarding and training business). Wendell is
responsible for the development of Lookybook’s strategic business
partnerships and consumer group relations.
Ron Chan Founder, Director of Design
Ron Chan is an internationally recognized illustrator and web designer. Ron
is a pioneer in digital illustration and led the profession’s migration from
traditional to digital. He was one of the first artists to ever touch a
drawing application from Adobe based on a new technology called Postscript.
He is a regular consultant to Adobe and beta tester of their Illustrator
application. Ron created the first page-turning book in response to Craig
Frazier’s question whether an elegant solution existed. Ron and co-designer
Frazier have designed a website that attempts to simply present the beauty
of every book it features. Ron is responsible for the website’s design and
programming.
Robert Locke Founder, Director
Robert Locke is CEO of Vue Technology (RFID) and has created and run
technology start-ups since 1989. He has held a number of executive and
entrepreneurial positions including CEO of PrintNation, Venture Partner at
J.P. Morgan Capital, and Founder of Kelmscott Communications. Robert brings
over 25 years of experience in operations, finance and M&A to his role at
Lookybook. He was instrumental in the development of the initial business
plan and the strategic direction of Lookybook. He is responsible to the
company in a financial and strategic advisory role.
